Guillaume Thunis – The Geometry of Time
Leather dying on paper
70 x 100 cm
Guillaume Thunis is a Belgian artist whose intricate ink-on-paper abstractions explore the delicate tension between structure and spontaneity. His work, often geometric and obsessive in its execution, reflects his deep fascination with equilibrium—an illusion of stability that, upon closer inspection, reveals subtle asymmetries and disruptions.
Rooted in a cyclical conception of time, Thunis' art is a study in repetition. His compositions begin with disciplined precision, only to gradually unravel, revealing minuscule variations—gaps, distortions, quiet ruptures in the rhythm. This meditative process pays homage to the perpetual cycle of birth, dissolution, and renewal.
There is both reverie and ambivalence in his work: a dialogue between control and freedom, between calculated order and the inevitable slip into organic deviation. His pieces invite viewers into this liminal space, where the familiar becomes uncertain, and what is tirelessly repeated begins to whisper of change.
Thunis has exhibited extensively in Brussels, participating in solo and group shows, and has earned a place in notable collections, including Galila Barzilaï’s in 2022. Originally trained in economics and political science, he fully embraced his artistic practice in 2019, channeling his analytical mind into the realm of abstraction.
Now, for the first time, a selection of his works is available through Suto Gallery—an invitation to experience his singular vision of time, balance, and transformation.
