This vibrant 1985 circus-themed poster by Waldemar Świerzy—one of Poland’s most celebrated graphic artists—encapsulates the whimsical spirit of Cyrk, the Polish State Entertainment Agency’s imaginative approach to circus promotion. Świerzy was a graduate of the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts and later led the poster design studio at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (1995–2001). Renowned for his witty and innovative poster designs since the 1950s, he earned numerous awards for his distinctive style.
Commissioned by the Polish State Entertainment Agency (ZPR), these Cyrk posters were never tied to a specific show but were created as standalone works of art, conjuring the playful fantasy and humor of the circus. Appreciated within Poland and abroad, they soon became highly collectible and showcased in international poster art exhibitions. This Clown poster is a prime example of Świerzy’s mastery in capturing the exuberance and whimsy of the circus through bold colors and clever composition—an excellent addition to any collection of graphic or circus art.
